How to Join Come Home to Syracuse

Come Home to Syracuse is about just one thing - welcoming back former residents by helping them find their place in the region we love.

Often, the hardest part about coming home is finding a job. You may have family and friends in Syracuse, but your list of professional contacts is likely stale - even if you've been gone just a short time.

Come Home to Syracuse uses profile information to match Applicants (people who want to Come Home) with Volunteers (people who are willing to help others Come Home.) Volunteers agree to help Applicants find opportunities and to make connections.

So, to get started you will need to complete our short membership data form.

Remember: Our privacy policy is very simple. Your information is never shared with anyone except at your specific request.

Come Home to Syracuse is a part of the Creative Core Talent Network.

Volunteers

After signing up, Volunteers can relax and wait for the system to match you with a new applicant. It may be a few days or even a week, but you will be notified via email of the next potential match.

  • When you have been notified, log on to the system and review the new profile. If you think you can help, make the match by clicking ACCEPT. If you don't think it's a good match, or you are unable to help for other reasons, just click DECLINE.
  • Now you can use the applicant's profile information to contact them directly. Many volunteers have a standard email full of information that they send out. Direct contact is always optional, but it has a very positive impact. We encourage volunteers to make direct contact whenever they can.
  • You can also forward the applicant's profile to your personal network of contacts - people who don't belong to Come Home to Syracuse but who you think can help. Your contacts will receive an email asking them to assist - and giving them a polite way to decline if they are unwilling or unable. Note: Your contacts' email address is also covered by our privacy policy. They will receive only the email you explicitly request.

Applicants

After signing up, Applicants need to take one more step. You will need to log in to your new account and look for the START A NEW ACTION button. Clicking this button will allow you to request that your profile be matched and forwarded through the Come Home to Syracuse network of Volunteers. We require this step in order to ensure that you have given us permission to share your contact information.

  • Now you can relax. Your profile will be sent to as many Volunteers as possible. Within a week or so, you are likely to hear directly from one or more who think they might be able to help.

Please Remember that Come Home to Syracuse is not an employment agency, and we can't guarantee that you will find a job. Our volunteers will do all they can to help you find opportunities and to make connections. You will need to be ready to follow up on their suggestions and advice.
  • Periodically, you will want to log in to your Come Home to Syracuse account and review and update your profile. You can also review which Volunteers have accepted your profile and how many times they have forwarded it to their contacts.
  • Now it's your turn. Even as you are looking for a job for yourself, we hope you will become a Volunteer. As soon as you join, the system will begin to send you profile matches. If you can assist, please feel free to do so. Perhaps you know of an opportunity that wasn't right for you - but may fit someone else. Whatever the case, please get involved. You'll discover there is mutual benefit in offering to help.
